Squiggle Town
Privacy policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
Overview
Squiggle Town is designed as a local-first handwriting practice app for young learners. The current app design keeps learner and handwriting practice data on the device by default and does not require a child account or cloud sign-in.
Data stored on the device
Squiggle Town may store a learner nickname, locally generated identifiers, progress such as stars and repaired town signs, practice sessions, handwriting attempts, ordered stroke traces, timing data and derived practice observations. These records support the app's practice flow and grown-up progress view.
Collection and transmission
The current design does not include cloud sync, remote research data collection, advertising, third-party analytics or telemetry. Core learner and handwriting records are intended to remain on the device unless a grown-up deliberately chooses to export data using an available export feature.
Data export
A grown-up or developer-facing export may allow locally stored practice information to be exported from the device. Export is an explicit user action. Once exported to another app, service or location, that copy is governed by the privacy practices of the chosen destination.
Children's privacy
Squiggle Town is designed to minimise collection and avoid unnecessary personal information. Parents and carers should use a nickname rather than a child's full legal name. The app does not provide social networking, public profiles, advertising or communication between children.
Research
Squiggle Town has a research-informed design, but installing or using the App Store version does not by itself enrol a child in research. Any future research involving participant data would require separate arrangements, including appropriate ethics and consent processes.
Deleting data
Locally stored app data can be removed by deleting the relevant learner data where the app provides that control, or by deleting Squiggle Town from the device. Any copies that a grown-up has previously exported must be removed separately from their destination.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated if Squiggle Town's data handling changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page before or alongside the relevant app release.
